Hassinger Equine Sports Medicine and Imaging Clinic offers the most comprehensive private diagnostic imaging center on the central east coast. In combination, these modalities are instrumental in providing clients with the most thorough lameness and performance evaluation offered at one location! At Hassinger Equine Imaging, we're continually striving to take the guesswork out of lameness evaluation for our clients.
STANDING MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is the choice of orthopedic specialists worldwide. MR Imaging allows the veterinarian to view both soft tissue and bone tissue simultaneously. The ability to view the complete joint structure facilitates a more accurate and complete diagnosis by identifying the specific type and location of an injury. Hassinger Equine Imaging offers standing sedation to our equine clients, therefore, reducing the risks generally associated with lay-down anesthesia. Standing MR Imaging is available for lower limbs.
DIRECT DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY
Direct Digital Radiography is key to assess bone structures in our equine athletes. The Eklin EDR-3 delivers superior diagnostic images in as little as 4 second (horse side)! The system's high resolution consistently produces detailed diagnostic images that are unparalleled in the equine veterinary industry. As a referral imaging center, other veterinarians can send cases to Hassinger Equine Imaging for complete, diagnostic images that are forwarded directly as jpeg images to the referral veterinarian. We also have a direct link with North Carolina State University radiologists and surgeons who can see images from our servers instantly if a surgical consult is needed.
DIGITAL ULTRASOUND
Nuclear scintigraphy (bone scanning) is an imaging modality that allows the veterinarian to view a specific area of the equine skeleton. This is important when a lameness is multi-factoral. Nuclear scintigraphy is especially useful for assessing bone inflammation. North Carolina State University has the capability of taking diagnostic, digital nuclear images. The quality is unparalleled. All Nuclear Scintigraphy cases that originate at Hassinger Equine Imaging are referred to NCSU.
Digital ultrasound is used at Hassinger Equine Imaging to assess soft tissue injuries as well as monitor the healing process. Ultrasound is a valuable tool for viewing tendons, ligaments and bony structures. Regular monitoring of horses that are on the road to recovery is made simple with ultrasound imaging. Digital ultrasound images can be sent to referring veterinarians as jpeg images or high quality paper copies.
ENDOSCOPY
The fibreoptic endoscope is a valuable tool when a horse's upper airway needs to be examined. The endoscope is passed through the nostril and gives a clear view of the structures within the nasal cavities, the pharynx and the trachea. Any abnormalities in these structures can affect a horse's ability to breathe. Endoscopy is a good tool when exploring a horse who "roars" or simply as a routine procedure in a pre-purchase or annual "wellness" exam.
For horses who need endoscopy of their stomach, we utilize the talents of Board Certified Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Kirsten Tillotson on a scheduled day each month at the clinic. Call the clinic to schedule your horse's appointment with Dr. Tillotson. Poor performance is often the result of ulcers!
