Digital UltrasoundDigital ultrasound is used at Hassinger Equine EndoscopyThe fibre optic endoscope is a valuable tool when a horse's upper airway needs to be examined. The endoscope is passed through the nostril and gives a clear view of the structures within the nasal cavities, the pharynx and the trachea. Any abnormalities in these structures can affect a horse's ability to breathe. Endoscopy is a good tool when exploring a horse who "roars" or simply as a routine procedure in a pre-purchase or annual "wellness" exam. For horses who need endoscopy of their stomach, we utilize the talents of Board Certified Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Kirsten Tillotson on a scheduled day each month at the clinic. Nuclear Scintigraphy Nuclear scintigraphy (bone scanning) is an imaging modality that allows the veterinarian to view a specific area of the equine skeleton. This is important when a lameness is multi-factoral. Nuclear scintigraphy is especially useful for assessing bone inflammation. North Carolina State University has the capability of taking diagnostic, digital nuclear images. The quality is unparalleled. All Nuclear Scintigraphy cases that originate at Hassinger Equine Imaging are referred to NCSU.
